Suture Rectopexy for Rectal Prolapse
Surgery / Feb 5th, 2022 10:10 am     A+ | a-

A suture rectopexy is essentially the same as a Marlex rectopexy, except that the rectum is fixed to the presacral fascia with suture material rather than mesh. This Video demonstrates suture rectopexy performed at World Laparoscopy Hospital. The overall success rate for recurrent rectal prolapse was 85.2 percent. Conclusion: The outcome of surgery for rectal prolapse is similar in cases of primary or recurrent prolapse. The same surgical options are valid in both scenarios.

Suture rectopexy is a well-established surgical procedure used for the treatment of rectal prolapse, a condition in which the rectum protrudes through the anus due to weakness of pelvic floor support structures. With the advancement of minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic suture rectopexy has become a preferred approach because of its safety, precision, and faster recovery. At World Laparoscopy Hospital, this procedure is performed using advanced laparoscopic techniques and is also taught as part of structured surgical training programs for surgeons worldwide.

The principle of suture rectopexy involves mobilization of the rectum and fixation of it to the sacrum using non-absorbable sutures. The goal is to restore normal anatomy, prevent recurrence, and preserve bowel function. During laparoscopic surgery, small ports are placed in the abdomen through which a camera and specialized instruments are introduced. The rectum is carefully dissected from surrounding tissues while preserving important nerves responsible for bowel and bladder function. Once mobilized, the rectum is sutured to the sacral promontory, ensuring stable fixation.

One of the major advantages of laparoscopic suture rectopexy is minimal postoperative pain, reduced hospital stay, and early return to daily activities. Compared to open surgery, laparoscopic visualization allows better identification of anatomical structures, reducing the risk of complications such as bleeding or nerve injury. Additionally, cosmetic outcomes are better due to smaller incisions.

At World Laparoscopy Hospital, surgeons are trained not only in technical steps but also in patient selection, preoperative evaluation, and postoperative care. The institution emphasizes evidence-based practice, simulation-based learning, and hands-on surgical exposure. Surgeons learn to manage different types of rectal prolapse cases, including complete prolapse and recurrent prolapse after previous surgery.

Patient outcomes after laparoscopic suture rectopexy are generally excellent, with low recurrence rates and improvement in symptoms such as fecal incontinence and constipation. However, careful follow-up is essential to monitor bowel function and overall recovery. Lifestyle modifications, pelvic floor exercises, and dietary advice are also provided to ensure long-term success.

In conclusion, laparoscopic suture rectopexy represents an effective and modern solution for rectal prolapse management. With advanced training, state-of-the-art technology, and expert faculty, World Laparoscopy Hospital continues to play a vital role in improving surgical standards and training skilled laparoscopic surgeons globally.
