Laparoscopic ablation of endometriosis using Ultrasonic Energy
Gyne Laparoscopic Surgery / Sep 23rd, 2022 8:25 am     A+ | a-

This Video Demonstrates the Laparoscopic ablation of endometriosis using Ultrasonic Energy by Dr. R.K. Mishra at World Laparoscopy Hospital. Surgical modalities such as electrosurgery and lasers have been used for many years to treat endometriosis. They are relatively unselective with a wide scatter, however, leading to the potential for significant tissue damage and injury. As an alternative, a technique for performing laparoscopic excision and adhesiolysis using an ultrasonic surgical ball.

Endometriosis affects women in two ways: it causes pelvic and abdominal pain, and it is associated with decreased fertility. Although symptoms such as pain and infertility may suggest the possible presence of endometriosis, the only definite way to diagnose it is by performing a laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia that allows thorough visualization and inspection of all pelvic structures including: the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes as well as the peritoneal surfaces covering the bowel and bladder. Endometriotic lesions are commonly found in all of these areas. Laparoscopy also allows for treatment of endometriosis lesions during the same surgical procedure.

Endometriosis occurs when cells that make up the lining of the uterus begin to travel and grow outside the uterus. These lesions can implant on any of the surrounding organs — such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel or bladder — and cause severe pain. Endometriosis can only be definitively diagnosed through laparoscopic surgery. This can determine a patient’s stage of endometriosis as well as where the lesions are located, and it can rule out conditions that share similar symptoms.

In this video by Dr. R.K. Mishra at World Laparoscopy Hospital, the laparoscopic ablation of endometriosis using ultrasonic energy is demonstrated. Unlike traditional surgical modalities like electrosurgery and lasers, which can cause significant tissue damage, this technique employs an ultrasonic surgical ball for laparoscopic excision and adhesiolysis. It offers a more selective and precise approach to treating endometriosis, minimizing collateral tissue damage and reducing the risk of complications.
