Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the education system all over the world and as a result, education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. I am a gynecologist practicing in Kerela. Due to the Covid pandemic, I am afraid to come for Hands-On training. Is there any online course available for gynecologists.

E-learning is not possible to learn the laparoscopic skill and online training can not replace direct consultant supervision at their place of work in surgical trainees. It is important to note that e-learning does not replace instructor-led training. Online training is only possible where knowledge is important. In laparoscopy, Hands-On training is important in the operation theatre and in the skill lab. You need to learn, dissection techniques, suturing and knotting, pneumoperitoneum technique, access techniques.

Multimedia such as text, graphics, animation, audio, and video can be used to produce engaging content. In laparoscopic surgery, but direct supervision at their place of work by a consultant is a must.

Unfortunately few institutes are giving online laparoscopic training but in our opinion, they are just doing so to sell their certificates. World Laparoscopy Hospital has 21 years of reputation as the premier institute of minimal access surgery and we don't want to engage the students just to sell our fellowship or diploma certificate without hands-on training and taking the OSCE exam.

Having a laparoscopic training certificate doesn’t necessarily imply that you have gone through the course assessments, nor learned anything at all for that matter. At the end of the day what the patient is really interested in is what you can actually do during surgery in real terms, not a piece of paper.

The emergence of specialization certificate programs of World Laparoscopy Hospital holds a lot of promise where laparoscopic skills are concerned. At World Laparoscopy Hospital we teach what we practice in our operation theatre on a real patients.
