Question About Laparoscopic Urology Training

Hello I am a urology consultant in the UK seeking to master upper urinary tract laparoscopy, I noticed that there is no lap prostatectomy course. Please allow a couple of questions that will help me decide whether the courses suits my needs. 1. Is there a special curriculum for urologists? I am not so interested in general surgical procedures but would like to know basic surgical procedures. 2. What is the planned theatre exposure and participation in live cases? What happened if there are no urological procedures scheduled during my course time? 3. Following the course, what will be my learning curve in lap nephrectomy/pyeloplasty? How many more procedures before being independent surgeon in lap urological procedures? Thank you and apologies for the long letter |

Dear Petros Our 4 week course cover all the laparoscopic procedure and you will get enough exposure. Unfortunately we do not cover endourological procedures like URS and Prostectomy but Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery training for urologist is available. Dear Dr.Rahul, thank you for your prompt reply. Could you please be more specific as to the amount and type of lap UROLOGICAL cases that I will get exposure to in 4 weeks? I have had training in laparoscopy and endourology in the past but during the last 4 years I was mostly doing benign urology cases, so I need to refresh my skills. I am aware that proper lap training needs more than 4 weeks time so I don't feel that I will be confident to do lap cases alone. I trust that you will be open and honest with me as to what to expect after this course. Thank you |
