Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy

This video demonstrate Salpingo-oophorectomy is the surgery to remove the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Removal of one ovary and fallopian tube is called a unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. When both are removed, it's called a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. This procedure is used to treat a variety of conditions, including ovarian cancer.

Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy (BSO) is an advanced gynecological surgical procedure in which both ovaries and fallopian tubes are removed. This operation is commonly performed for ovarian tumors, severe endometriosis, tubo-ovarian infections, or as a preventive procedure in women at high risk of ovarian cancer. At World Laparoscopy Hospital (WLH), this surgery is performed using modern minimal access (laparoscopic or robotic) techniques under the guidance of highly experienced surgeons such as Dr. R.K. Mishra, who is internationally recognized for his expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Dr. R.K. Mishra is a pioneer in minimal access surgery and has trained thousands of surgeons worldwide. With more than 25 years of experience and involvement in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical education, he has played a major role in spreading minimally invasive surgical techniques globally. He is Director and Chief Surgeon at World Laparoscopy Hospital and has performed and taught thousands of laparoscopic procedures.

At World Laparoscopy Hospital, BSO is typically performed using laparoscopic technology. In this method, the surgeon inserts a telescope (laparoscope) and fine surgical instruments through small incisions in the abdomen. The magnified view helps the surgeon safely remove both ovaries and fallopian tubes while minimizing tissue trauma. Minimal access surgery offers advantages such as less postoperative pain, smaller scars, faster recovery, and shorter hospital stay compared to open surgery.

The procedure is clinically important because removal of both ovaries and tubes eliminates the possibility of natural pregnancy and usually results in menopause if the patient is premenopausal. Therefore, careful patient counseling and proper indication are essential before surgery. Like any major surgery, BSO has certain risks such as bleeding, infection, and injury to nearby organs like the bladder, bowel, or ureters, although these risks are generally low when performed by experienced laparoscopic surgeons.

World Laparoscopy Hospital is a specialized center dedicated to minimal access surgery, research, and training. Founded by Dr. R.K. Mishra, the hospital focuses on high-quality patient care, advanced surgical technology, and international surgical education. The institute has trained surgeons from more than 100 countries and is known for its modern infrastructure and hands-on surgical training programs.

In conclusion, Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy performed by Dr. R.K. Mishra at World Laparoscopy Hospital represents the integration of surgical expertise, modern technology, and patient-centered care. The procedure plays an important role in treating and preventing serious gynecological diseases, while minimally invasive techniques ensure better recovery and improved quality of life for patients. WLH continues to contribute significantly to global surgical education and advancement in minimal access gynecological surgery.

A bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is the surgical removal of both ovaries and both fallopian tubes to treat ovarian cancer. The goal of the procedure is to remove any cancerous cells and prevent the chance for recurrence. A laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy can be performed with general or local anesthesia. During the procedure, your doctor will make several small incisions and insert surgical instruments, a light and camera into the incisions. The camera and light enable the surgeon to see the ovaries and fallopian tubes clearly. When in position, the surgeon will remove the ovaries and fallopian tubes through the small incisions.
