Axilloscopy
For Surgeon / Sep 1st, 2020 9:24 am     A+ | a-

This video demonstrate technique of axilloscopy. In endoscopic axillary lymph node removal, very small incisions are made in the axillary skin and removes the lymph nodes using an endoscope.

Axilloscopy, also known as armpit endoscopy, is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to diagnose and treat conditions of the axilla (armpit). The procedure involves inserting a small camera and other instruments through a small incision in the armpit. Here are the general steps to perform axilloscopy:

Anesthesia: The patient is given local or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the procedure and the patient's preference.

Incision: A small incision is made in the armpit. The size of the incision may vary depending on the size of the camera and instruments used.

Insertion of the camera: A small camera, also known as an endoscope, is inserted through the incision and advanced into the axilla. The camera allows the surgeon to visualize the area on a monitor.

Insertion of instruments: Once the camera is in place, other instruments such as forceps, scissors, or biopsy tools are inserted through additional small incisions to perform the necessary procedures.

Procedure: The surgeon performs the necessary procedures, which may include removing lymph nodes or a mass, or performing a biopsy.

Closure: Once the procedure is complete, the incisions are closed with sutures or surgical tape.

Recovery: The patient is observed for a short period of time after the procedure, and then discharged with post-operative instructions.

Axilloscopy is a relatively safe and effective procedure, but like all surgical procedures, it carries some risks such as infection, bleeding, or nerve injury. It is important for patients to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure with their surgeon before undergoing axilloscopy.
