Regarding Sterilization of Telescope

Hi, I am Dr Chifundo Kajombo,

I am one of the fellowship graduant from your hospital. we have started doing some diagnostic laparoscopic cases, thanks you for imparting us with the knowledge and skill. i just have a small question on how to take of telescope and camera, mainly on aspect of cleaning. i wanted to know how you clean telescope. do you just immense it in cidex, what about the camera. i dont know if this elaborates it.

Dear Dr Chifundo Kajombo

Most of the telescope used in laparoscopic surgery is nowadays autoclavable. You can also use ETO2 gas sterilized at temperatures up to 140°F (60°C). Simplest way is that You can also put the telescope in cidex without any fear because they are soakable and airtight, but take care of tip of the telescope should not hit any other instrument otherwise it can get scratch. For camera head you should use plastic sterile sleeve or you can keep it in formalin chamber.
