Dear Sir,

In this Pandemic of COVID 19 use of Laparoscope is essential. I was wondering is there any disposable laparoscope that we can use in emergency.

Dear Dr. Gerard Smith

Doctors are at the front line of the COVID-19 outbreak response and as such are exposed to hazards that put them at risk of infection. Hazards include pathogen exposure, long working hours, psychological distress, fatigue, occupational burnout, stigma, and physical and psychological violence.

If you want to use a disposable laparoscope is emergency there is one laparoscope available called Xenocor Laparoscope. Xenocor, Inc. announced the FDA cleared the new Xenocor Disposable 5mm Articulating Laparoscope for minimally invasive abdominal and thoracic surgery. The Xenoscope 5mm articulating disposable laparoscope is designed to improve image quality, reduce fog, lower hospital costs, and reduce bio-hazard risk for the patient and staff.

Although there is no issue using a reusable telescope in laparoscopic surgery. There is no case reported infection of the CORONA virus due to the use of a reusable laparoscope but if you want you can use this XENOCOR telescope.

Hello Sir. Don't you think post covid era, every laparoscopic surgery should be performed by a disposable laparoscopic ports to reduce infections.. Although, i know it will be expensive but if a disposable cost effective ports are available then why not.

There is no scientific evidence to date for the transmission of COVID-19 by laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopy can be used with precautions because of its benefits compared to open surgery. No case report of transmission during laparoscopic surgery. Even the electrosurgical fumes of harmonic, bipolar, or monopolar are not proved to be harmful to surgeons or patients. We are just forming a theory or conjecture for COVID 19 without firm evidence.
