Dear Sir

I am Dr. Heba. I was in F.MAS june 2009 batch at WLH. My question is If I will use visiport to introduce the optical trocar will it remove the risk of bowel injury?

Dear Dr. Heba Omar Mohammad Khanfar

Complications are associated with gaining access to the abdomen during laparoscopic surgery. Inadvertent bowel injury or major vascular injury is not uncommon, and are potentially life-threatening complications that are most likely to occur during initial access of primary trocar or blind entry by veress needle.

Visiport is a good optical trocar but It is not true that Visiport will eliminate all the concern about injury in laparoscopic access technique. When the visiport trigger is squeezed, the sharp blade extends approximately 1mm and immediately retracts. This action permits a controlled, sharp dissection of the tissue layers. The pistol grip handle includes a trigger and, at the proximal end, an opening accommodates a 10mm laparoscope. The 10 mm 0° laparoscope permits visualization as the obturator passes through the abdominal or thoracic body wall. Direct visualization of tissue layers during primary port insertion. Allows a combination of controlled blunt and sharp dissection during entry.

Safety of access technique depends upon the experience of surgeon rather than the device which is used.

Please let us know if you have any other question.

With regard
