LINX surgery is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It involves implanting a small flexible ring of magnetic beads around the lower esophageal sphincter, which helps prevent acid reflux while allowing food to pass through. The magnetic attraction between the beads keeps the sphincter closed, preventing stomach acid from entering the esophagus. LINX surgery offers a long-lasting solution for GERD, improving symptoms and reducing the need for medication.  MORE

Cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder, has been identified as a potential risk factor for oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Recent studies suggest that the absence of the gallbladder may lead to alterations in bile acid metabolism, causing an increased reflux of bile into the esophagus. Chronic exposure to bile acids can contribute to inflammation and cellular changes, potentially promoting the development of oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Further research is needed to establish a definitive causal relationship between cholecystectomy and oesophageal adenocarcinoma.  MORE
