This Video Demonstrate Laparoscopic Fundoplication performed at World Laparoscopy Hospital, Gurgaon. During fundoplication surgery, the upper curve of the stomach (the fundus) is wrapped around the esophagus and sewn into place so that the lower portion of the esophagus passes through a small tunnel of stomach muscle. This surgery strengthens the valve between the esophagus and stomach (lower esophageal sphincter), which stops acid from backing up into the esophagus as easily. This allows the esophagus to heal.

Laparoscopic Fundoplication by Dr. R. K. Mishra at World Laparoscopy Hospital

Laparoscopic fundoplication is one of the most effective surgical procedures used to treat severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and chronic acid reflux. This advanced minimally invasive surgery has transformed the management of reflux disorders by providing long-term relief while ensuring faster recovery and minimal postoperative discomfort. At World Laparoscopy Hospital, the procedure is performed with exceptional expertise under the guidance of renowned laparoscopic surgeon Dr. R. K. Mishra, who is globally recognized for his contributions to minimal access surgery and surgical education.

Laparoscopic fundoplication involves reinforcing the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) by wrapping the upper part of the stomach (fundus) around the lower end of the esophagus. This technique prevents stomach acid from flowing back into the esophagus, which is the primary cause of GERD. Unlike traditional open surgery, the laparoscopic approach requires only a few small incisions through which a camera and specialized instruments are inserted. This allows surgeons to perform the operation with high precision while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues.

Under the leadership of Dr. R. K. Mishra, laparoscopic fundoplication at World Laparoscopy Hospital is performed following internationally accepted surgical standards. Dr. Mishra emphasizes careful patient selection, precise dissection, and a tension-free fundic wrap to ensure optimal results. The procedure typically involves mobilization of the gastric fundus, repair of any associated hiatal hernia, and creation of a 360-degree wrap around the esophagus, commonly known as the Nissen fundoplication.

One of the major advantages of this minimally invasive surgery is the rapid recovery it offers. Patients generally experience less postoperative pain, minimal scarring, and shorter hospital stays compared to conventional open surgery. Most patients can resume normal activities within a few days, and the procedure significantly improves their quality of life by eliminating chronic reflux symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and difficulty swallowing.

Beyond clinical treatment, World Laparoscopy Hospital also serves as an international training center where surgeons from around the world learn advanced laparoscopic techniques. Through live demonstrations and hands-on training sessions, Dr. R. K. Mishra teaches the step-by-step methodology of laparoscopic fundoplication, enabling surgeons to adopt safe and effective surgical practices in their own institutions.

In conclusion, laparoscopic fundoplication performed by Dr. R. K. Mishra at World Laparoscopy Hospital represents a perfect combination of surgical expertise, modern technology, and patient-centered care. The procedure not only provides long-term relief from GERD but also exemplifies the advancements of minimally invasive surgery in improving patient outcomes and surgical education worldwide.

Laparoscopic fundoplication, also referred to as laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, is a minimally invasive surgery commonly employed for the treatment of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD occurs when stomach contents reflux (flow backward) and enter the lower end of the esophagus due to a relaxed or weakened sphincter. This sphincter, called the LES or lower esophageal sphincter, is the valve between the esophagus and the stomach.
Normally, the stomach contents do not enter the esophagus (food pipe) due to a constricted LES. In GERD, the LES is weak or relaxed enabling stomach acids to reflux into the esophagus.
