Hi im 17 and my period has always been irregular. I won't get it every month maybe I'll get it every 2 months or so. it's getting back on track a little bit but now I have a problem. My period would start (well I think it would start) and it would go away the next day or 2 days after. It would start spotting but no blood so I'm like okay?? I don't know why.. and now out of nowhere my actual period started and I have been bleeding heavy for maybe over 2 weeks. I'm guessing it's because my period hasn't started for so long it finally started.. Is that true? |

Dear Jasmin Bleeding for more than 2 weeks may not be normal. Bleeding for more than 2 weeks can be termed as menorrhagia. Most cases of these cases are due to an imbalance between the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body, which allows the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) to keep building up. During menstruation, the shedding of this thick endometrium results in very heavy bleeding. It can be due to the thyroid conditions, clotting disorder, fibroids, swelling irritation, infection of the vagina or cervix. So you can consult your gynaecologist as you can have any of the above mention problem. Regards Dr Rahul |
