Dear Mrs Manju Progynova tablets retain the active component estradiol valerate, which is a naturally-occuring form of the main female sex hormone, oestrogen. Progynova is not a contraceptive. It will not prevent you from falling pregnant. Progynova provides hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the treatment of climacteric complaints after the cessation of monthly bleeding or after removal of the ovaries. Progynova is only intended for short term use. It should not be used unless it is very much essential to use. Sometime because of many diseases the declining amounts of oestrogen may cause distressing symptoms, such as irregular periods, hot flushes, night sweats, moodiness and vaginal dryness or itching. Medicines as well as their possible negative effects can affect individual folks various ways. The following are a few of the side effects that are known to be related to this medicine. Just because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that everybody by using this medicine are experiencing that or any side effect. Breakthrough bleeding and spotting Breast pain, tenderness or enlargement Headache/migraine Gut disturbances, for example nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, indigestion Leg cramps Fatigue Weight changes Vaginal thrush Depression Anxiety Dizziness Changes in libido Rise in blood pressure level Gall bladder disease Swelling of the ankles due to to fluid retention (peripheral oedema) Skin reactions for example rash and itch Steepening of corneal curvature which might get in touch lenses uncomfortable. Premenstrual-like symptoms Disturbance in liver function Irregular brown patches on the skin, usually of the face (chloasma) Blood clots within the arteries So you should remain in contact with your gynecologist while you are on this hormone replacement therapy.
