I'm a 22 year old Indian female. Over the past few months, while urinating I noticed that the urine does not pass out from the urethra, rather a point below the urethra near the vaginal opening. I used to urinate from the urethra before. There is no pain, and I urinate when my bladder is full( no continuous urinating as such).

Is this normal?
If its not how bad is this condition?

Thanks for your time.

Dear Michelle
In our opinion you have developed vesico-vaginal fistula. It's brought on by childbirth in which case it's called an obstetric fistula), when a prolonged labor presses the unborn baby tightly against the pelvis, cutting off blood flow towards the vesicovaginal wall. The affected tissue may necrotize, leaving an opening. Vaginal fistulas can also result from violent rape. This injury has become common in some war zones, where rape can be used like a weapon against civilian populations. As a result, some health centers in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo have begun to focus on the surgical repair of vaginal fistulas.

For confirm diagnosis you need to be examined by our doctor. Please make one appointment so that we can see the situation.
