subject: Intramural fibroid Hello Doctor am Miss Sakhuja, am 27 years of age and am single. I've been so worried since I started having serious menstral cramps heavy bleeding during period slight lower back pain and constant sometimes brownish vaginal discharge. I went for a pelvic scan and the result stated: USS shows a bulky uterus with AP diameter of 7. 0cm. The echo pattern is largely homogeneous. The myometrium is expanded by a solid tissue mass with mixed echo texture and AP diameter of 6.0cm intramural in the posterior fundal wall. The Endometrerial thickness is normal. Both ovaries appear normal in size and structure. Adnexae bilaterally free. Pouch of Douglas is normal. NO cyst. NO cyesis or retained products of conception sighted. Please advice me on what to do, do I require a surgery? How bad is the my case? Thanks |

Dear Sukhuja Intramural fibroid are most common type of fibroid, it arises from the lining of the uterus (endometrium). Your symptoms like heavy bleeding, menstrual cramps, lower back pain are due to this fibroid. Your fibroid size is big and you need to go for the surgery. Laparoscopic Myomectomy is the surgery of choice in your case. It is the surgery in which the myoma in the uterus are taken out preserving the uterus and the reproductive potential of the woman.
