I am female and my age is 28. my menstrual process didn't happened last 2 months. because of that i went to see the doctor, he is consultant for endocrinologist. i went to see him because my weight also gain ( 84kg ) and i felt that am having PCOS. anyway he gave me Diane 35 and cetapin 500mg, after that menstrual happened as usually. but again he gave me diane 35 with cetapin 500mg. and according to his advice i have done testosterone ( Less than 0.20 ng/ml ) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone test which gave result as 1.99 mIU/mL and Luteinizing hormone shows 2.14 mIU/mL. I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT IS THE MEAN OF THESE TEST? AM I HAVING ANY DECEASES? WHY HE GAVE DIANE 35 AGAIN?

Dear Chanee

Although your reports and almost near normal value your doctor has prescribed cyproterone acetate. The substance cyproterone acetate contained in Diane-35 blocks the effect of endogenously produced and exogenously administered androgens at the target organs by means of competitive inhibition.

The stimulating effect of male sex hormones on androgen-dependent structures and functions is weakened or abolished by cyproterone acetate.

Apart from the described anti-androgen effect, cyproterone acetate also has a progestational action. The ethinylestradiol in the combination inhibits ovulation and changes the cervical mucus and the endometrium rendering them unfavourable for sperm penetration and nidation of a fertilised ovum, respectively.

You can discuss these factors with your gynecologists.

With regards
MK Gupta.
