My wife is suffering from recto-vaginal Endometriosis. She feels acute pain during bowel movement in her menstruation periods. After seeing the reports of MRI and Colonscopy, doctors suspects colon is also affected with Endometriosis. Doctors suggest Laparoscopy to make the life happier. She has also undergone infertility treatment from 2009 and 3 attempts of IVF (in 2009, 2010, 2012) failed since then. One doctor suggests to try IVF again immediately after laparoscopy for consecutive 6 months. Is there any chance to bear pouch after laparoscopy. If yes, for how many days this needs to be carried? Any suggestions on how we should proceed on this?

The endometriosis spots are destroyed by diathermy during laparoscopic surgery, where an electric current is passed down a fine probe burning the lesion of endometriosis. Some surgeons use laser to evaporate the endometriosis. in case of rectal endometriosis a portion of rectum may be removed (resection and anastomosis) may be required.
Fine adhesions can be cut during laparoscopy using small scissors. Bleeding is usually minimal during laparoscopic surgery and having avoided an open operation means that the risk of subsequent adhesion development is reduced. Laparoscopic managment also has the advantage of needing a minimal hospital stay, it is usually possible to go home the same or following day.
Improvement in pain symptoms following this type of surgery and chances of getting pregnent can be expected in 70% of cases.
