Mrs. Rana aged 40 has detected a small hole in her upper side of the heart. She has 2 kids. Her eco report showed RA/RV enlarged. Other chambers seen normal. Does she really required surgery at this stage or should be done without surgery. |

Dear Rana You did not write where actually this hole is there in your heart. Holes in the heart are quite obvious congenital heart defects. Congenital heart defects are issues with the heart structure which can be present at birth. These defects customize the normal the circulation of blood over the heart. You might be knowing that heart has two sides, separated by an inner wall called the septum. With every heartbeat, the best side from the heart receives oxygen-poor blood from your body and pumps it to the lungs. The left side of the heart receives oxygen-rich blood from your lungs and pumps it on the body. The septum prevents mixing of blood between the two sides from the heart. However, some babies are born with holes inside the upper or lower septum. A hole from the septum between your heart has two upper chambers is called an atrial septal defect (ASD). An opening inside the septum between the heart two lower chambers is called a ventricular septal defect (VSD). ASDs and VSDs allow blood to give from the left side with the heart to the correct side. Thus, oxygen-rich blood mixes with oxygen-poor blood. Consequently, some oxygen-rich blood is pumped on the lungs instead of the body. Within the last few decades, the diagnosis and treatments for ASDs and VSDs have greatly improved. Children who may have simple congenital heart defects can survive to adulthood. They are able to live normal, active lives his or her heart defects close by themselves and have been repaired. Few of the hole can be tolerated by the patient but majority of them need surgery.
