Hi- I had a suture tied through my right ureter after a laparo/vaginal hysterectomy (last july). It was there for 10 days. Ihad a small fistula which seems to have closed on its own. I also had a ureteral stent for 6 weeks, however the end that was supposed to be in the kidney came ouafter 3 weeks and was never re-inserted. the stent was removed on time.- everything seemed to be fine until now- sometimes my urine is thick, smelly and has bits of tissue (not toilet tissue) in it.could this be signs that only 1 kidney is working? |

Dear Anna Some small bits of tissue is very common after reconstructive surgery or stenting of ureter. If you have doubt about kidney then you should get on IVP done. An intravenous pyelogram is an X-ray test that provides pictures of the kidneys, the bladder, the ureters, and the urethra. An IVP can show the size, shape, and position of the urinary tract, and it can evaluate the collecting system inside the kidneys. During IVP, a dye called contrast material is injected into a vein in your arm. A series of X-ray pictures is then taken at timed intervals.
