I have a burn on my stomach from hot water and going in for laposcopic surgery for gastric vertical sleeve. The burn is healing but still there it is about 1/4 wide and 1.5" long. Will this stop the surgery from happening? |

Dear Tasha Some patients have few risks after vertical sleeve gastrectomy: 1. Gastritis which is due to inflamation of stomach lining, heartburn, or gastric ulcers 2. Injury to stomach, intestines, or other organs during surgery of gastric vertical sleeve 3. gastric vertical sleeve also has sometime leaking from the line where parts of the stomach have been stapled together 4. After gastric vertical sleeve some patient experience poor nutrition, although much less than with gastric bypass surgery 5. After gastric vertical sleeveScarring some patient may have blockage in bowel in the future 6. Vomiting from eating more than your stomach pouch can hold is also possible So in the above condition you should consult your surgeon immediately. If you are a smoker, you should stop smoking several weeks before gastric vertical sleeve surgery and not start smoking again after surgery. Smoking slows recovery and increases the risks of problems. Tell your doctor or nurse if you need help quitting. With regards M.K. Gupta |
