Dear Dr. I would like to know why (technical reasons please) you don't practice partial liver resection for cancerous tumor resection. Thanks Michael |

Partial hepatectomy continues to be widely used in clinical practice since the surgery of choice for primary and metastatic liver tumors. However, the recurrence rate following the treatment remains very high, which is probably due to the growth of residual microscopic lesions. Previous studies in murine models indicated that a majority of hepatectomy significantly accelerated the growth of ectopically implanted tumors. Thats why one should do thorough clinical investigation of the high recurrence rate of liver metastasis following partial hepatectomy. |
