Dear Mr Saah

Stomach Diverticulum is a Saccular, outward protrusion of all or a portion of the wall. Diverticula rarely involve the stomach but occur in the duodenum in up to 25 percent of people. Diverticula of the stomach produce epigastric distress and dyspepsia, but since they usually occur on the posterior surface near the cardia they are difficult to demonstrate by x-ray or surgical exploration unless specifically searched. Excision of symptomatic diverticula may be followed by relief of the patient's complaints and should be undertaken when other causes can be reasonably excluded or symptoms persist after correction of other pathology previously considered of etiologic importance.

Surgical removal of a known gastric diverticulum should be done if the patient's condition permits.

Diverticular disease happens when small areas of the lining of your bowel weaken and form bulges or pouches, over the course of many years. These are known as diverticula. Most diverticula are found in the lower part of your large bowel, not in the stomach although some people get them in other parts of their stomach.

If you have intolerable symptoms you can go for surgery.

With regards

I'm 78. Colonoscopy located a number of pepper and lentil sized deverticulums in the sigma-part of my bowel.
Grateful for your comment re. need- or no need of any treatment or surgery.

At this age if you have few diverticulum without any symptom you should not worry. Foods such as seeds, nuts, and corn were, in the past, thought by many health care professionals to possibly aggravate diverticulitis. However, recent studies have found no evidence that suggests the avoidance of nuts and seeds prevents the progression of diverticulosis to an acute case of diverticulitis.

Not only has this research shown that they do not appear to be aggravating the diverticulitis, but it appears that a higher intake of nuts and corn could in fact help to avoid diverticulitis in male adults.

Please remain in touch with your physician if you have bleeding or pain.
