Oophorectomy is done under general anesthesia. It is performed through the same type of incision, either vertical or horizontal, as anabdominal Hysterectomy Horizontal incisions leave a less noticeable scar, but vertical incisions give the surgeon a better view of theabdominal cavity.
After the incision is made, the abdominal muscles are pulled apart, not cut, so that the surgeon can see the ovaries. Then the ovaries,and often the fallopian tubes, are removed.
Oophorectomy can sometimes be done with a laparoscopic procedure. With this surgery, a tube containing a tiny lens and light source isinserted through a small incision in the navel. A camera can be attached that allows the surgeon to see the abdominal cavity on a videomonitor. When the ovaries are detached, they are removed though a small incision at the top of the vagina. The ovaries can also be cutinto smaller sections and removed.
The advantages of abdominal incision are that the ovaries can be removed even if a woman has many adhesions from previous surgery.The surgeon gets a good view of the abdominal cavity and can check the surrounding tissue for disease. A vertical abdominal incision ismandatory if cancer is suspected. The disadvantages are that bleeding is more likely to be a complication of this type of operation. Theoperation is more painful than a laparoscopic operation and the recovery period is longer. A woman can expect to be in the hospital two tofive days and will need three to six weeks to return to normal activities.

World Laparoscopy Hospital: A Hub of Contemporary Learning with Daily 8-Hour Hands-On Laparoscopic Training

In the realm of medical education and training, there are institutions that stand out as pioneers, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. One such institution is the World Laparoscopy Hospital, where a contemporary event unfolds every day, featuring a remarkable 8-hour hands-on laparoscopic training program.

A Daily Revolution in Learning

At the heart of the World Laparoscopy Hospital's mission is the commitment to train the next generation of surgeons and medical professionals in the art and science of Minimal Access Surgery. What makes this institution truly exceptional is its daily 8-hour hands-on laparoscopic training program.

The Laparoscopic Revolution

Laparoscopic surgery, often referred to as minimally invasive surgery, has revolutionized the field of surgery in recent decades. Instead of large incisions, this technique involves making tiny keyhole-like openings through which a camera and surgical instruments are inserted. This results in significantly reduced patient trauma, shorter recovery times, and less post-operative pain.
