Fellowship and Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery candidates we demonstrated Live Diagnostic Laparoscopy with Tubal Patency Test Surgery. Diagnostic Laparoscopy is generally regarded as being the gold standard for the assessment of pelvic anatomy in female and for checking the patency of the fallopian tubes. This is part of the routine assessment of infertility. In Female tubal damage is the cause of infertility in about 15% of cases. The medical history and the findings on examination may strongly suggest a problem with the tubes:
1. History of pelvic infection/s
2. Major pelvic surgery causing adhesions post operatively
3. Termination of pregnancy followed by an inability to become pregnant with partners of proven fertility.
If there is nothing to suggest a tubal problem, it may be reasonable, at least initially, to give the tubes the benefit of the doubt. If however all the other fertility screening tests on is normal and husband of patient is also normal there is still going to be a question mark hanging over the health of femal pelvis and in those situation a tubal patency test should be performed.
