Maintenance of light cable:

1. Handle them carefully,

2. Avoid twisting them

3. After the operation continues to be completed, the cable should preferably be disconnected in the endoscope after which connected to the source of light. Actually, most of the sources currently available possess a plug for holding the cable until it cools down.

4. The concentration of light source is really high that there's chance of retinal damage if the light will fall directly on eye so never attempt to look directly on source of light when it's lighted.

5. The end from the end crystal of cable ought to be periodically cleaned with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.

6. The outer plastic covering of the cable ought to be cleaned with a mild cleaning agent or disinfectant.

7. Fiber optic cable should never be placed on or under drapes, or next to the individual, if it's attached to an illuminated light source. The heat generated from the intensity of light could cause burns towards the patient or ignite the drapes.
