A laparoscope, a thin viewing tube similar to a telescope, is passed through a small incision (cut) in the abdomen. During laparoscopy, the surgeon makes a small cut (incision) of around 1-1.5cm (0.4-0.6 inches), usually near your belly button. A tube is inserted through the incision, and carbon dioxide gas is pumped through the tube to inflate abdomen. A diagnostic procedure is an examination to identify an individual's specific areas of weakness and strength in order determine a condition, disease or illness.
