How does the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy compare to the other surgeries? Simple operation with low mortality risk. Technically easy to perform with low peri-operative risks. Minimal short-term and long-term complication rates. Short-term risks of staple line bleeding or leakage are very rare. The only long-term risk is GERD in some patients. Weight loss is comparable with gastric bypass. The gastric sleeve is not reversible. Part of the stomach is permanently removed. It is important to understand that reversing any weight loss operation (such as gastric band or gastric bypass) will result in weight regain back to the original weight. You should not have any weight loss operation if you intend to ever reverse it. Though gastric sleeve is not reversible, it can be changed to gastric bypass if there was any need. Most illnesses that are related to obesity can be improved or even cured by weight loss surgery. These include sleep apnoea, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, stress incontinence, depression, acid reflux, joint pain, as well as osteoarthritis. Losing weight for obese patients also means greater outcomes from pregnancy, increased fertility, and a lower risk of cancer. The surgery increases life expectancy, on the whole.

Obesity has become one of the most pressing health concerns of the 21st century, affecting millions worldwide. Beyond aesthetic concerns, obesity significantly increases the risk of serious health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and sleep apnea. For patients struggling with morbid obesity, lifestyle modifications and medications often provide limited results. This is where surgical intervention, particularly Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), emerges as a highly effective solution.

World Laparoscopy Hospital, renowned for its expertise in minimal access surgery, has been at the forefront of obesity management through advanced laparoscopic techniques. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy is a minimally invasive procedure designed to help patients achieve significant and sustainable weight loss. The procedure involves the surgical removal of approximately 75-80% of the stomach, leaving a narrow, sleeve-shaped stomach. This smaller stomach restricts food intake and reduces hunger by affecting the production of ghrelin, the hormone responsible for appetite stimulation.

One of the key advantages of VSG is that it does not involve intestinal bypass, reducing the risk of malabsorption and nutrient deficiencies compared to other bariatric surgeries. Additionally, the laparoscopic approach ensures smaller incisions, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery. Patients at World Laparoscopy Hospital benefit from a highly experienced surgical team led by experts in minimal access surgery, ensuring safety and optimal outcomes.

Preoperative evaluation at the hospital is thorough, including nutritional assessment, psychological counseling, and medical optimization to ensure that each patient is a suitable candidate for surgery. Postoperative care emphasizes lifestyle modification, balanced nutrition, and gradual physical activity to maximize the success of the procedure. The hospital’s multidisciplinary approach ensures that patients not only lose weight but also maintain long-term health improvements, including better glycemic control, blood pressure regulation, and improved mobility.

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy at World Laparoscopy Hospital exemplifies the fusion of cutting-edge surgical technology with patient-centered care. The hospital’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and safety has made it a leading center for obesity surgery, attracting patients from around the world seeking a transformative approach to weight management. For those struggling with morbid obesity, VSG offers a life-changing solution that goes beyond weight loss, enhancing overall health and quality of life.
