First Robotic Surgery Training Centre in Asia Where More than 600 Surgeons trained in 6 Years

Gurgaon, Monday, 31 December 2016: World Laparoscopy Hospital, Gurgaon is one of the most popular laparoscopic and robotic surgery training institute of the World. World Laparoscopy Hospital is the only institute in Asia which gives structured da Vinci robotic surgery training in structured manner and after this Hands On training surgeons, urologists and gynaecologists become eligible for Fellowship of International College of Robotic Surgeons.

According to Dr. R.K. Mishra, Director, World Laparoscopy Hospital, this course provides a unique opportunity for the surgeons and gynaecologists working in robotics to learn strategies for successful robotic surgery across multiple specialties from the pre-, intra-, and post-operative perspectives.

World Laparoscopy Hospital is imparting robotic surgery training since 2010 and within 6 years more than 600 surgeons and gynaecologists have been trained for robotic surgery from more than 30 countries. The mission of the WLH is to efficiently facilitate fellowship programs to internationally exchange fellows to observe, train and educate in their field of robotic surgery.

The course will consist of live moderated surgical demonstrations, didactic lectures, breakout sessions and hands-on workshops that cover areas such as robotic surgery skill development, optimizing efficiency, team management, assist strategies, communication, organization, positioning, safety concerns, troubleshooting, and more!

World Laparoscopy Hospital has focused Simulation robotic surgery lab portion as opposed to watching live surgery where surgeons will be given direct Hands On over four arm HD Da Vinci Robot. They can learn robotic suturing, knotting and various dissection techniques under the supervision of experts.

According to Dr Mishra in Asia there is no readily available curriculum for robotic surgery which includes self-assessment of knowledge. Residents and consultants need a resource to obtain up-to-date information about robotic surgery of the Uterus, Ovary, prostate, kidney, bladder and pelvic floor as well as Morbid obesity surgery. They need to learn the surgical techniques for common applications for da Vinci robotic surgery. WLH is providing these aspirant surgeons a unique opportunity of skill development.

World Laparoscopy Hospital is already a well-known institute on laparoscopic surgery but in the field of robotic surgery their initiative to train surgeons and gynaecologists is first of its kind in Asia.

The objectives of this robotic surgery fellowship program offered by WLH is to introduce urologists, surgeons and gynaecologist to robot-assisted surgery. The education will focus on: safely learning the basics of robot-assisted surgery by training on the real da Vinci robot not on simulator with a training curriculum and completing 16 hours of console time; transitioning the skills acquired with the da Vinci Surgical System (DVSS); observing the surgical support team to learn about OR setup, instrumentation, and troubleshooting techniques. The trainee will also get hands on experience with conventional laparoscopic training. The remaining period of the Mini-fellowship will be spent observing cases, such as bariatric surgery, hernia surgery, hysterectomy, prostatectomy, cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion, nephrectomy, and partial nephrectomy.

A candidate who is interested in this fellowship of international college of robotic surgeon’s program of World Laparoscopy Hospital must initially fill up the online application form available at World Laparoscopy Hospital website. Subsequently, a candidate must apply by filling out the required application form, and send their CV to WLH department of Robotic Surgery.
