Hi Sir,

According to the baseball diamond concept, what is the target in the gastric sleeve, as we know it is the closest part of the dissection, is it the gastro esophagus junction?

Hi Dr. Waseem

You are right. The target in sleeve gastrectomy is Gastro-Oesophageal Junction. The technique of multiport sleeve gastrectomy is described using 4 to 6 ports and an additional port for a liver retractor. A technique of sleeve gastrectomy has been described, on the link below

the principal advantages of which appear to reduced postoperative pain and an improved cosmetic outcome.

In gastric sleeve surgery, the "target" according to the baseball diamond concept is not the gastroesophageal junction itself but the stomach portion to be resected along the greater curvature, starting from about 2 to 5 cm proximal to the pylorus up to the angle of His, while preserving the integrity of the gastroesophageal junction. if you want more information visit...
