Sir, I have been routinely doing lap cases both major and minor, but incidence of pulmonary embolism was higher in lap chole than any other lap cases done. Had 3 cases of pulmonary embolism, lost one recently. All surgeries were done on stable pts with no co-morbidity. With physician consultation. All the above said cases did not last for more than 45 mins. |

Dear Dr Mahesh Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a relatively uncommon complication following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Although pneumoperitoneum decreases venous return leading to venous stasis, it does not probably increase the incidence of pulmonary embolism. We, therefore, do not recommend extra precautionary measures for prevention of Pulmonary Embolism in Laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
