My father, age 56, had been diagnosed with bowel obstruction due to gall bladder stone three weeks back. He was kept on iv saline and the blocked food was taken out with a tube through his nose. The doctors kept him on antibiotics and adviced laproacpic surgery after two months. Day before yesterday he was hospitalized and diagonsed with acute pancreatitis along with gallstone. Now again they have put a tube in his nose and keeping him only on iv saline. I would like to know when can we perform the gallstone surgery? Is laprascopic surgery possible? Also is it important to first subside pancreatitis to remove the bladder. I can give you details of any of the test done if required. Thank you. I appreciate your help |

Dear Chinky Shukla Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is possible but only if pancreatitic will subside. Occasionally a tube will be inserted through the nose or mouth to remove the contents of the stomach (nasogastric suctioning). This may be done if vomiting or severe pain do not improve, or if a paralyzed bowel (paralytic ileus) develops. The tube will stay in for 1 - 2 days to 1 - 2 weeks. With regards M.K Gupta |
