It is often recommended when a patient experiences heavy or prolonged bleeding that doesn’t respond to medications or other treatments. Since you've been bleeding heavily for the last two months, your doctor may suspect underlying conditions like fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis, or other uterine abnormalities — which can be effectively treated with this surgery. In a laparoscopic hysterectomy, the surgeon makes 3–4 small incisions in the abdomen. A laparoscope (a thin tube with a camera) is inserted through one incision to guide the surgery. Surgical instruments are inserted through the others to remove the uterus. In some cases, the cervix, ovaries, or fallopian tubes may also be removed — this will depend on your medical condition and the doctor's evaluation. Benefits of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Less pain and faster recovery than open surgery Minimal scarring due to small incisions Shorter hospital stay – most patients go home within 1–2 days Faster return to normal daily activities Recovery Recovery usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your body and the extent of the surgery. You’ll be advised to avoid heavy lifting, strenuous activity, and se-xual intercourse during this period. Important Note After hysterectomy, you will no longer have menstrual periods or be able to get pregnant. If your ovaries are removed as well, you may experience menopausal symptoms. |
