According to medical experts, this condition can be acute or chronic and requires timely diagnosis and treatment. Causes: Uterine infections are commonly caused by: S-exually transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia or gonorrhea Postpartum infection after childbirth, especially after a C-section After miscarriage or abortion if tissue remains in the uterus Use of intrauterine devices (IUDs) Pelvic procedures such as D&C (dilation and curettage) Symptoms: Doctors typically observe the following symptoms in patients with a uterine infection: Lower abdominal or pelvic pain Fever and chills Abnormal or foul-smelling vaginal discharge Heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding Pain during intercourse General weakness or fatigue In some cases, the infection may spread to nearby reproductive organs or into the bloodstream, leading to more severe complications like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Treatment: According to doctors, the standard treatment involves: Antibiotics: A combination of oral or intravenous (IV) antibiotics is typically prescribed to eliminate the infection. Treatment usually begins as soon as infection is suspected. Hospitalization: In severe cases, especially with high fever or if the patient is not responding to oral antibiotics, hospital admission and IV antibiotics may be required. Drainage or removal of retained tissue: If infection is due to retained products of conception (after miscarriage or delivery), surgical evacuation (D&C) may be needed. Avoiding intercourse and tampon use during recovery is often advised. |
