| Sneha | My child has tonsils in his throat. He has been suffering from this problem for almost 3 years. He has a lot of difficulty in breathing. Can this be cured with any medicine or will surgery be required? |

Bhalla | If your child has been suffering from tonsil issues for a long time and is experiencing significant difficulty breathing, it’s essential to consult with an ENT specialist (ear, nose, and throat doctor) for a comprehensive evaluation. Here’s an overview of potential treatments: Medication: Sometimes, medications such as antibiotics (if there is a bacterial infection) or corticosteroids (to reduce inflammation) can help manage symptoms, but they may not address the underlying issue if the tonsils are chronically enlarged or causing severe problems. Surgery: If the tonsils are severely enlarged and causing breathing difficulties, or if there are recurring infections, a tonsillectomy (surgical removal of the tonsils) might be recommended. Surgery is often considered when other treatments are ineffective and the condition significantly impacts quality of life. |
