| Dr. B. S. Bhalla | After endometrioma surgery, it is common for your periods to be irregular for a few months as your body and hormones recover. However, if irregular periods and weight gain persist for more than 3 months, it’s important to follow up with your gynecologist. Here’s what doctors usually recommend: Hormonal Evaluation: A blood test to check your hormone levels — including FSH, LH, estrogen, progesterone, thyroid (TSH), and prolactin — to find the cause of irregular periods. Pelvic Ultrasound: To ensure there is no recurrence of the cyst or new hormonal imbalance like PCOS. Hormonal Treatment: If your periods are delayed due to hormonal imbalance, your doctor may prescribe combined oral contraceptive pills or progesterone tablets for a few months to regularize your cycles. Diet and Exercise: Weight gain after surgery can be due to hormonal changes or inactivity. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and good sleep help restore hormonal balance. Follow-up: Regular follow-up with your gynecologist is important to monitor your ovary and prevent recurrence of endometriosis. If you also experience pelvic pain, bloating, or heavy bleeding, inform your doctor immediately. |
