Since you are experiencing swelling and significant pain in the calf, it’s important to start appropriate treatment under medical supervision to avoid complications like infection or delayed healing. Medical Treatment (As per doctor’s general recommendation): Compression Therapy – The mainstay of treatment is compression bandaging or stockings, which help improve blood flow back to the heart. This reduces swelling and promotes ulcer healing. You must wear them as prescribed, usually during the day and remove them at night. Wound Care – The ulcer needs to be cleaned regularly and dressed with medicated or hydrocolloid dressings to promote healing and prevent infection. Avoid using home remedies without medical advice. Medications – Your doctor may prescribe: Pain relievers for calf pain. Antibiotics if there's any sign of infection (redness, pus, or fever). Venoactive drugs to improve vein tone and circulation. Leg Elevation – Keep your legs elevated while sitting or lying down to reduce swelling. Ideally, your feet should be above the level of your heart. Lifestyle Changes – Avoid standing or sitting for long periods. Walk regularly to boost circulation. Control diabetes or blood pressure if present. Surgical or Minimally Invasive Options – If ulcers persist or varicose veins are severe, your doctor may suggest laser therapy, sclerotherapy, or vein stripping surgery to improve long-term outcomes. |
