If you have dengue fever, it’s very important to stay well hydrated. Dengue can cause dehydration due to fever, vomiting, and loss of appetite. According to doctors, you should drink at least 3 to 4 liters of fluid per day, or more if you are sweating a lot or have vomiting. Fluids you should drink: Water – Drink plenty of plain water regularly. ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) – Helps replace lost salts and fluids. Coconut water – Natural electrolyte-rich drink that prevents dehydration. Fresh fruit juices – Especially papaya, orange, pomegranate, and apple juice are good for boosting immunity. Lemon water – Helps cleanse the body and keeps you hydrated. Vegetable soup – Provides fluids and essential nutrients. Avoid caffeinated drinks, soda, and alcohol, as they can worsen dehydration. Foods that help recovery: Papaya leaf juice – Some doctors recommend this to increase platelet count (consult your doctor before use). Fruits rich in Vitamin C – Like oranges, kiwi, guava – help improve immunity. Protein-rich foods – Eggs, lentils (dal), and boiled chicken support tissue repair. Soft and easily digestible foods – Like khichdi, porridge, plain rice, or boiled vegetables. Iron-rich foods – Like spinach and beetroot, especially if your blood count is low. Eat in small, frequent meals and avoid oily, spicy, or processed foods. Important: Keep checking your platelet count, body temperature, and warning signs like severe stomach pain, bleeding, or weakness. If any of these symptoms appear, go to the hospital immediately. Rest well, drink enough fluids, and follow your doctor’s advice closely. Recovery usually takes about 1–2 weeks. |
