Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pain, heavy periods, and sometimes fertility problems. Treatment depends on how severe your symptoms are, your age, and whether you want to get pregnant in the future. Here are some common treatment options: Pain Relief Medicines Examples: Ibuprofen, Naproxen Benefits: Helps reduce pain and inflammation. Risks: May cause stomach upset if used long-term. Hormone Therapy Types: Birth control pills, hormone sh-ots (like GnRH agonists), IUDs with hormones Benefits: Helps reduce or stop periods, which can slow the growth of endometriosis tissue and ease pain. Risks: Side effects may include mood changes, weight gain, or h-ot flashes. It may also affect fertility while being used. Laparoscopy Surgery What it is: A minimally invasive surgery to remove endometriosis tissue. Benefits: Can improve pain and increase chances of getting pregnant. Risks: All surgeries carry some risk like infection or bleeding. The symptoms may return after some time. Hysterectomy (removal of uterus) Used when: Other treatments don’t work and if the woman doesn’t want children in the future. Benefits: May provide long-term relief. Risks: Permanent infertility and risks related to major surgery. Fertility Treatment Options: IVF (In vitro fertilization) if trying to get pregnant Benefits: Helps women with endometriosis-related infertility. Risks: Expensive, and not always successful on the first try. |
