You have two dense cysts in your left ovary, one measuring 2.1×1.5 cm and the other 1.4×1.2 cm. Your doctor has suggested laparoscopy, which is a type of surgery where small cuts are made in the stomach to look at or remove the cysts. You’re wondering if this is really needed or if medicine can help instead.

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs in the ovary. Some cysts are simple and harmless—they often go away on their own or with medicines like hormonal pills. But your cysts are described as “dense,” which means they are not just fluid-filled. They might have solid parts or thick walls inside them. These types of cysts usually don’t go away easily with medicines and need to be looked at more closely.

Laparoscopy helps the doctor see exactly what kind of cyst it is—whether it’s something like endometriosis, a dermoid cyst, or something else. It also helps in removing the cyst safely while keeping the ovary healthy, especially if you want to have children in the future.

If the cysts are not growing, not painful, and there’s no sign of cancer, sometimes doctors wait and watch. But if you have pain, fertility issues, or the doctor thinks it could be something serious, laparoscopy is a safe and effective way to treat it.
