I have undergone ovarian cyst surgery through laparoscopy surgery. I am having irregular periods after surgery. Is this normal or do I need treatment for this? |

Irregular periods after undergoing laparoscopic ovarian cyst surgery can be normal for a short period, especially during the initial recovery phase. This happens because your body may take some time to restore hormonal balance after the surgery. In many cases, the menstrual cycle becomes irregular due to: Hormonal changes related to the removal of the cyst, especially if it was a functional cyst Physical or emotional stress from the surgery Temporary disruption in ovulation as the ovary heals It is generally considered normal to have some irregularity in your periods for up to one to three months after surgery. However, you should consult your doctor if: Your periods remain irregular for more than three months Your periods become very heavy, painful, or extremely light Your periods stop completely (a condition known as amenorrhea) You had conditions like PCOS or endometriosis before surgery You notice other symptoms such as severe pelvic pain, unusual discharge, or bloating To help regulate your periods and monitor your recovery: Track your menstrual cycle regularly Maintain a healthy lifestyle and manage stress Follow any prescribed medications or hormone therapies Consider follow-up tests such as pelvic ultrasound or hormone level assessments if irregularities continue |
