I am suffering from umbilical hernia since 2 years. For this I was taking homeopathic medicines. I am 44 years old. Should I go for laparoscopic hernia surgery. It is safe for me? |

Yes, laparoscopic hernia surgery is generally a safe and effective treatment for umbilical hernia, especially for someone who has had the hernia for 2 years. Umbilical hernia happens when part of the intestine or fat pushes through the abdominal muscles near the belly button. In adults, this usually doesn’t go away on its own and may slowly become bigger or painful. Since you’ve had the hernia for 2 years and homeopathic treatment has not resolved it, surgery is usually the recommended option. Laparoscopic hernia surgery is a modern, minimally invasive procedure where the surgeon makes 2-3 small cuts and uses a camera and instruments to repair the hernia. A mesh is often used to strengthen the weak area. Compared to open surgery, laparoscopy has several advantages: Smaller cuts and less pain Shorter hospital stay (often same-day discharge) Faster recovery (you can return to normal activities sooner) Lower risk of infection and complications At the age of 44, if you are generally healthy and don’t have serious heart or lung problems, laparoscopic surgery is considered quite safe. Before surgery, your doctor will do some tests like blood work and possibly an ultrasound or CT scan to assess the hernia and ensure you are fit for anesthesia. If the hernia is causing pain, discomfort, or is increasing in size, it is better to go for surgery rather than delay it. Waiting too long can increase the risk of complications like hernia strangulation (when the tissue gets trapped and loses blood supply), which can be an emergency. |
