I had two operations for the delivery of my children before 17 years. Last year I developed hernia in my abdomen. Doctors identified it as post operative hernia. I want to know if it can be operated by laproscopy. I am also a diabetic patient. How much will the operation cost.

Yes, your post-operative abdominal hernia can usually be treated with laparoscopic surgery, even if you had surgeries 17 years ago for childbirth. Laparoscopic hernia repair is a minimally invasive technique where small cuts are made, and special instruments and a camera are used to repair the hernia using a surgical mesh.

Since your hernia developed after surgery, it is called an incisional hernia. Laparoscopic surgery is often a good choice for incisional hernias because:

It causes less pain after surgery.

Recovery is faster compared to open surgery.

There is less risk of wound infection, which is important for diabetic patients.

However, every case is different. If your hernia is too large or complicated, or if there are other health concerns, the doctor may suggest open surgery instead.

As you are a diabetic patient, it’s important to control your blood sugar before and after the surgery to avoid complications like poor wound healing or infection. Your doctor may ask for pre-operative tests and refer you to an anesthesiologist and a physician for diabetes management.
Cost of Surgery in India:

Laparoscopic hernia surgery usually costs between ₹90,000 to ₹1,50,000 depending on the hospital, surgeon’s experience, city, and room type.

Government or charitable hospitals may offer it at a lower cost.

Some private hospitals may charge more, especially if mesh or ICU care is required.

It’s best to consult a general or laparoscopic surgeon. They can examine your hernia and give you a clear plan based on your medical condition and diabetes status. Also, check if your health insurance covers the cost.
